The postage stamp dedicated to the Olympic Torch Relay-2014 went on sale

MOSCOW, the 7th of October /ITAR-TASS/. In Russia the postage stamp dedicated to the Olympic Torch Relay in Sochi has went on sale. As reported on Monday in the press service of "Russian Post" the face amount of the stamp is 50 rubles, and the number of copies is 120,000 units.

“The stamp depicts the emblem of the Olympic Torch Relay of the XXII Olympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi. On the fields of the post block there is the map of the Russian Federation, the relay torch, the images of the Moscow Kremlin and the Maritime Terminal in Sochi", - “Russian Post” has explained.

They have also prepared to release the artistic stamped envelope the circulation of which amounts to 2,000,000 copies, an artistic covering and the first day cover with franking with the circulation of only 2500 copies.

"As part of the philatelic program, dedicated to the Games in 2014, it will be possible to use 8 postal blocks, 50 stamps, 2 envelopes with the original stamp, and more than 50 artistic stamped envelopes and cards, - said in the press-service of the postal company. – Already today we can confidently confirm that the upcoming Games will leave a bright mark in the history of both the Russian and the world philately".

The Olympic Torch Relay will be the longest and most extensive in the history of the Olympic Winter Games. Within 123 days the torch will overcome more than 65 thousand kilometers and visit the capitals of all 83 subjects of the Russian Federation. "In each of the regional capitals the arrival of the Olympic Torch will be marked by solemn franking of philatelic products that will be held at the main post offices, - told the "Russian Post". – The special additional franking will be held on board of the icebreaker during an expedition to the North Pole, on Lake Baikal and Elbrus".

The final franking will be held in Sochi on the 7th of February , when the Olympic Torch Relay will arrive in the capital of the Games 2014.

The official welcome for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Flame has taken place on Red Square in Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin, who lit the Flame basin from fire of the Olympic torch, marked the start of the first stage of the Olympic Torch Relay. Ten torchbearers ran with the Sochi 2014 Olympic Flame around the grounds of Moscow's Kremlin, supported by Sochi 2014 Olympic Torch Relay Presenting Partners Coca-Cola, OSAO "Ingosstrakh" and OAO "RZD".
